Join Us in the Fight Against Alzheimer’s by Singing
Notes in Time Singers is dedicated to bringing joy and hope to those with Alzheimer's, Dementia and their Caregivers through singing. We want to ensure both the Caregiver and those they care for are uplifted and inspired by hearing and singing along with familiar songs of the past.
Did you know?
110,000 people 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s in Maryland. Sadly, that number is expected to grow by 18% by 2025. And a vast number of people with Alzheimer’s or other dementias have little mental stimulation and little means to slow the progress of their condition.
There are over 247,000 caregivers in Maryland. These are unpaid family members who care for people with cognitive and physical ailments. In addition, they also care for children, grandchildren, parents, or others.
Nationally, one in nine people aged 65 or older are affected by Alzheimer’s disease. One in ten people aged 45 or older have subjective cognitive decline. One in seven caregivers are themselves burdened with their own mental or physical struggles and, sometimes, depression.
Many people with Alzheimer’s become alert and even animated when hearing or singing favorite music. But there are too few opportunities for them to enjoy the music they love. Notes In Time Singers offers persons with cognitive disabilities opportunities to:
- sing joyful songs in community with others;
- to meet new people and make friends with like-minded people who enjoy singing;
- to participate in a chorus from the safety and convenience of their own residence;
- to rehearse virtually without having to worry about the weather or being out at night;
- Caregivers of persons in Memory Care and long-term care facilities are and encouraged to attend and participate in virtually or in-person.
- Residents with Alzheimer's and mild to moderate dementia experience calmer moods by singing old familiar songs and learning new ones without the stress of having to memorize lines.
By participating with the Notes in Time Singers, you or your loved-one will enjoy singing in a way that is fresh and new. If you are looking for a place to volunteer, look no more. Bringing music to persons with Alzheimer’s and dementia is a joyful experience. Just one hour of singing happy, uplifting songs to another soul can make a world of difference in their lives. If you are someone who enjoys singing songs that inspire and uplift, along with making new friends we welcome you.
